Rainbow Flower Celebration
20 July - 20 September

The West Coast is well known for the annual display of wild flowers that seem to burst into sight almost out of nowhere. The “flower season” is usually around August and September and while these months are a good time to view the flowers, the best flowers are often already in full bloom by the end of July and, depending on the weather, flowers can be seen well into September.

So the Cape West Coast Peninsula Rainbow Flower Celebration is from July right through to October and covers the towns of Langebaan, Hopefield, Saldanha, Vredenburg, St Helena Bay, Paternoster, Jacobs Bay and Britannia Beach.

Flower viewing is best done at a relaxed pace and is, of course, dependent on weather conditions. The flowers only open when the sun is shining and follow the sun as it rises and sets each day so for the best display and photo opportunities, make sure the sun is behind you!

The West Coast National Park, situated on the banks of the Langebaan lagoon is a very popular flower-viewing destination. The official park flower season is from 1 August until 30 September when the protected area of Postberg within the Park, is open to the public. The gates also remain open longer during these dates.

The historic town of Hopefield, just 40km inland from Langebaan, hosts its Annual Fynbos Show from 30 August - 2 September and is well worth a visit. Enjoy delicious home-bakes and experience the warmth friendliness of the locals while viewing the most incredible arrangements and displays of natures flower celebration.
